Ser / estar en el SP1

Uno de los puntos que, a menudo, resulta mas problemático para estudiantes angloparlantes de español es el uso de ser y estar. Esto se debe a que en español estos dos verbos indican acciones diferentes, mientras que en inglés estas distintas acciones se indican con un solo verbo; to be.

Como anécdota, para que no os desaniméis en el estudio del español, os diré que en inglés también existen verbos cuyas acciones en español se indican con un solo verbo. Por ejemplo: hacer (to do, to make).

Para evitar que los errores en el uso de ser y estar se conviertan en un problema más persistente y complejo a medida que se avanza en el estudio del español, es conveniente tener muy claro su utilización desde el primer momento.

Por eso, en esta entrada os presentamos un resumen de estos dos verbos según los hemos ido viendo en el edificio SP1 del servidor de Minecraft de Kotoba Miners.

Primero, vamos a repasar la formación de los verbos ser y estar en el presente de indicativo. Recordemos que son irregulares.

Ser / estar in the SP1

One of the things which usualy becomes harder for English speakers who are learning Spanish is the use of ser and estar. This happens because in Spanish these two verbs refer to two different actions, meanwhile in English there's only one verb; to be.

Don't get anxious with it. Have in mind, as a curiosity, in English there are also some verbs that work the other way round. For example: hacer (to do, to make). Here you have two different verbs in English that have a single verb in Spanish to express both actions.

To avoid continous and complex mistakes using ser and estar while advancing in the study of the language, it would be convenient to clear up their use from the beginning.

That's why we share with you in this post a resume of these two verbs as seen in the SP1 building of Minecraft in Kotoba Miners.

Este es el primero de una serie de vídeos que hemos diseñado para enseñar el español esencial a través de Minecraft y Los Sims 3.

El vídeo con el que empezamos te enseñará las expresiones y mecánicas básicas para poder presentarte. Hoy, nuestra herramienta serán los avatares de algunos miembros de Kotoba Miners, a los que queremos agradecer su colaboración en algunos de estos vídeos. Y tenemos un agradecimiento especial para CheapBeats, poniendo la música para la entrada y la despedida de esta serie de videos.

¡Ah! Sabemos que puede parecer que se habla muy rápido, pero en realidad es una velocidad normal para un hispanohablante. Pero como todo lo hablado está por escrito en cada diapositiva, lo creímos oportuno para que acostumbréis vuestro oído a la velocidad de habla habitual en nativos de lengua hispana. ¡Recordad que podéis pausar el vídeo para contestar las preguntas! Sentimos la calidad del vídeo, pero aun estamos aprendiendo a editarlos.

Comunidad Kotoba: introductions

This is the first of a series of videos we have designed to teach a basic approach to Spanish through Minecraft and The Sims 3.

The one we start with will teach you the basic mechanics and expressions on how to introduce yourself. Our tool today will be the avatars of some of our Kotoba Miners´ members, who we want to thank for their collaboration on some of these videos. And a special thanks to CheapBeats' music for the intro/outro of the series.

Oh! We know the speech can seem quite fast, but this is a normal speech pace. As everything spoken it's also written in every slide, we thought convenient for you to get used to a normal pace of Spanish speakers. Remember you can stop the video in order to answer the questions! We're sorry for the quality of the video, but we're yet learning how to edit them.
